WSOC: Hofstra Ties UNCW In Road Conference Matchup

Wilmington, N.C. – Hofstra set a season-high with 30 shots with sophomore Emily Agudelo and junior Leah Galton scoring goals as the Pride played UNCW to a 2-2 tie in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Sunday afternoon at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Galton tied a team season high with 10 shots and Agudelo's first career goal helped Hofstra earn a point as the Pride moved to 9-6-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play. UNCW goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy made 11 saves to help the Seahawks move to 7-7-2 and 2-4-1 in league action.

Galton scored a go-ahead goal in the 64th minute when she collected her own rebound and blasted a shot from 18 yards out. Galton's ninth goal of the season gave the Pride a 2-1 lead, but UNCW again tied just 1:27 later on Katrina Guillou's goal.

Guillou took Greyson Ray's centering pass, ran to the middle and scored from 12-yards out to knot the score at 2 at 64:33.

UNCW opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Maddy McCormick scored near the six-yard box following Madison Melnick's short pass into the middle for McCormick's third goal of the season.

Agudelo, a second-year midfielder, helped Hofstra tied the score off a free kick in the 43rd minute on a set piece from midfield that took a high bounce and came down just inside the left post. It was Agudelo's first goal in 32 career games.

Senior forward Sam Scolarici posted three shots in the opening half, including two on goal that Huddy stopped.  Huddy stopped the first five on-target Hofstra shots, but the Pride stormed back with the tying goal with 2:52 left in the first half on Agudelo's scoring strike.

Sophomore goalkeeper Friederike Mehring made two saves as Hofstra's defense did not allow a single on-target shot in either the second half or the two overtime periods.

Galton reached double digits in shots and Scolarici registered eight shots. Hofstra's previous high in shots was 26 versus Indiana State on Sept. 7 and Galton tied Scolarici's 10 shots set against both Yale and Saint Joseph's this season.

Scolarici and Galton played every minute, as did Hofstra defenders Rhian Cleverly, Mallory Ullrich, Caylin Dudley and Emily Hulbert.Junior Chloe Dale also did not leave the game, with the Pride only employing a single substitution in senior Lulu Echeverry, who tallied one shot-on-goal in 37 key minutes as a reserve.

Hofstra will conclude the regular season with back-to-back home games, starting on Friday versus Drexel at 7 p.m. The Pride will then have Senior Day on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game versus Delaware that could have major implications for CAA Tournament positioning.
