MSOC: Hofstra Plays Drexel To 1-1 Draw

Philadelphia, PA – Hofstra junior Elliott Firth scored in the first half, but Drexel netted the equalizer in the 87th minute as the teams played to a 1-1 tie in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Wednesday night at Vidas Field.

Hofstra held the lead into the late stages before Tal Bublil found the net off a header with just 3:07 remaining in regulation. Hofstra moved to 8-5-3 and 2-2-2 in CAA play in improving its point total to eight. Drexel, which entered the night tied for first place, moved to 7-7-3 and 3-1-2. The Dragons now have 11 points.

At the end of the evening, Hofstra is in sixth place in the CAA with one regular season game remaining on Sunday when the Pride hosts Delaware at 1 p.m. Six of the eight teams in the league qualify for the conference tournament. Seventh-place College of Charleston has four points with two games remaining while eighth-place James Madison has three points with one league game left.

Firth scored his second goal of the season and first since Sept. 11 at Boston University when he scored off senior Chris Griebsch's feed in the opening half. Griebsch notched his seventh assist of the season and extended his program-record career total to 31 career assists.

Senior goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini made five saves for the Pride in his first start since Sept. 22. Pellegrini made two saves in overtime to help Hofstra salvage a point.

But Drexel was able to tie it late with Ken Tribbett and Connor Goldsmith picking up the assists on Bublil's goal.

The game was a rematch of last season's CAA Tournament semifinals when the Pride advanced on penalty kicks at Vidas Field. Hofstra is 14-22-9 in the all-time series. Drexel is the most frequently played opponent in Hofstra history.
