MSOC: Hofstra Blanks FDU In Non-League Matchup

Hempstead, N.Y. –Senior Chris Griebsch notched his first career two-goal game to help spark Hofstra's 3-0 non-conference victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday evening at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Junior Maid Memic added a goal and sophomore goalkeeper Patric Pray made four saves to help Hofstra post its sixth win in eight games to improve to 8-4-2 overall. The Pride improved to 7-0 at home this season. FDU dropped to 7-6-1.

The Pride built a 16-9 edge in shots  against a Fairleigh Dickinson squad that advanced to the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament before falling to the then-defending champion North Carolina.

Junior midfielder Elliott Firth picked up his first assist of the season when he scored on Memic's first half goal. It was Firth's first point since Sept. 11, covering a nine-game stretch. Senior midfielder Herbert Biste also registered an assist for his first point of the season.

Hofstra improved to 3-2-1 all-time against the Knights with the team posting its first victory in the series since 1969.

Griebsch, who entered with 16 career goals, accomplished a personal best with a multi-goal game. Both of his goals came in the second half, starting with a 49th minute unassisted goal. Griebsch forced a turnover and beat FDU goalkeeper Aleskandar Djekic one-on-one.

Biste set up Griebsch's second goal in the 73rd minute when he sent a cross in from the right side that Griebsch finished with a shot to the left corner. Griebsch, who set Hofstra's all-time assist record with 30 against James Madison last week, scored his third goal in the last two games for a total of seven this season. That has smashed his previous high of four goals set in both 2011 and 2012.

Memic scored his eight goal in his last eight games and his team-leading ninth goal of the season with a 14th-minute strike. Firth sent in a cross and Memic headed it in. That proved to be his eighth game-winning goal since 2012.

Pray made two of his total saves in the second half to tally his fourth career shutout. He is 5-1-1 through his first seven career starts.

Hofstra will next be in action on Saturday when the Pride takes on William & Mary with a Colonial Athletic Association road matchup at 7 p.m.
