Vestal, N.Y. - Junior Tyler Botte netted the first two-goal
game of his career and Joseph Holland scored a key goal as Hofstra stayed
undefeated with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Binghamton on Friday night
at Bearcats Sports Complex.
Hofstra erased a 2-1 deficit in improving to 3-0-1 on the season. Head coach
Richard Nuttall's team is off to their best start since the 2002 squad began
4-0. The Pride is now 2-0-1 on the road
this season. Hofstra snapped Binghamton's two-game winning streak as the
Bearcats fell to 2-3.
Junior forward Chris Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany)
continued his hot start, picking up two assists to give him a team-leading
seven points.
Botte (North Babylon, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 29th
minute when the 6-foot-3 defender headed in Griebsch's corner kick. Botte, who
scored four goals as a sophomore, picked up his first goal of 2012 on the play
and would score what proved to be the game-winner in the second half.
But after Botte's initial goal, the Bearcats showed the
quick-strike ability that lead to wins over Buffalo and Army heading into the
contest. Jake Keegan scored two goals in a 33-second span, handing Binghamton a
2-1 edge at halftime.
Keegan scored his first goal off Adam Whitehead's cross in
front at 29:30, erasing Hofstra's lead just 1:15 after the opening goal. Almost
a half-minute later, Keegan potted a second goal by heading in Marts
Reid-Warden's pass at 30:03 for his fifth goal of the season.
Hofstra bounced back in the second half when Holland
(London, England) capitalized on Griebsch' s pass and scored from outside the
box in the 51st minute to knot the score at 2. It marked the second straight
game Hofstra came from behind after salvaging a 1-1 tie at Monmouth on Sunday.
Botte then put Hofstra ahead for good when he scored off a
rebound in the 65th minute. The Pride facilitated the play with a corner kick
and Botte registered his seventh career goal and his first collegiate
game-winner. Junior Herbert Biste (Halle, Germany) picked up the assist on the play for his first point since joining the Pride.
Junior goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini (Rome, Italy) made three
saves total to preserve the win. Hofstra, with Pellegrini playing every second
in net, is now 4-0-2 in the last six games dating to the end of 2011.
Hofstra will next be in action on Sunday at Albany with a 2 p.m. start.
