Norfolk, VA - Seventh-seeded Delaware posted a 4-0 victory over #10 Hofstra in the first round of the Virginia 529 CAA Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University.
Delaware jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Hofstra by winning the double competition. The Blue Hens' top team of Samantha Carnall and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom beat Elena Ivanova and Brooke Sailer, 8-4, and the No. 3 tandem of Olivia Heim and Kim Milla took an 8-3 decision over the Pride's Paige Polizos and Malissa Gilanchi. Delaware capped the match with a sweep in singles. Courtney Fenimore was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Gilanchi at No. 3, Sjoberg-Sundstrom rolled past Bianca Derrick, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 and Dorothy Safron picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sonia Tsay at No. 2.
Hofstra finishes the 2011-12 campaign with a 6-14 record.
