MTEN: Pride Trip Bloomsburg, 5-2

Quakertown, PA - The Pride won five of the six single flights to post a 5-2 victory over Bloomsburg University at the Tennis Zone Sunday afternoon. Hofstra improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory.

After being swept in the doubles competition, the captured the first three flights of singles as Hofstra freshman Ari Richman defeated Ricky Dove, 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, sophomore Antonio Pena topped Jeff Nuhfer, 6-1, 6-4 at second singles and sophomore Matthew Gemmell defeated Mike DiSanto, 6-4, 6-4 at third singles for a 3-1 lead.

Bloomsburg sophomore Tyler Pultro brought the Huskies back to within one at 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Pride junior Pedro Gimenez at fourth singles. But it would be the only singles match Bloomsburg would win as Hofstra sophomore Laurent Octobre defeated Evan Carney, 7-5, 6-4 at fifth singles and senior Jason Sinkoff downed Andres Prince, 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles for the 5-2 victory.

In the doubles competition to open the match, it was all Bloomsburg as Dove and DiSanto defeated Richman and Pena, 8-4 at first doubles, Pultro and Nuhfer topped Gemmell and Gimenez, 8-3 at second doubles and Mark Schroeder and Prince downed Octobre and Ryhaan Gill, 8-2 at third doubles to take the team point.

The Pride will return to action next Sunday, February 26 when they face the Terriers of St. Francis College at the Bridge View Tennis Center in Brooklyn, New York. Match time is 7 p.m.
