MTEN: Pride Fall To Bucknell in Spring Season Opener

Quakertown, PA - Freshman Ari Richman posted a victory at second singles but it the Pride's only win of the day as Bucknell defeated Hofstra, 6-1 in the spring season opener of the 2011-12 season Saturday. The Pride is 1-2 on the year.

Richman (Phoenix, AZ) defeated Octano Canibe, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at second singles to close the Pride's match deficit to 3-1. This Hofstra victory followed a Bucknell sweep through the doubles competition that gave the Bison a 1-0 lead, Gregg Cohenca's 6-3, 6-1 win over Pride sophomore Antonio Pena at first singles, and Evan Zimmer's 6-3, 6-2 decision over Hofstra sophomore Matthew Gemmell at third singles.

But the Pride couldn't get any closer as Bison Josh Katten defeated junior Pedro Gimenez, 6-2, 6-2 at fourth singles, Kelly Marque upended senior Jason Sinkoff , 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 at fifth singles, and Kyle Rosen took a 6-2, 6-0 win over sophomore Laurent Octobre.

In the doubles competition, the Pride's first doubles team of Pena and Richman gave Bucknell the biggest battle before dropping an 8-6 decision to Cohenca and Zimmer. Bucknell's second doubles team of Katten and Marque defeated Gimenez and Gemmell, 8-2, and Rosen and Scott Bernstein defeated Octobre and Gill, 8-4 at third doubles. The Bison defeated the Pride for the ninth time in 11 outings.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when they face Bloomsburg in Quakertown, Pennsylvania at noon
