Newark, DE. - Senior Mike Annarumma scored in the 12th
minute and senior goalkeeper Adam Janowski posted his third shutout in the last
four games to lift Hofstra to a 3-0 victory over Delaware in a Colonial
Athletic Association meeting on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Sophomore Maid Memic and freshman Joseph Holland also scored
for Hofstra in the second-half to extend its lead over the Blue Hens. Hofstra improved to 10-4-1 and 4-3 against
the league. Head coach Richard Nuttall secured his first 10-win season since
2006 with the victory while Delaware fell to 3-9-4 and 1-3-3.
Annarumma (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) scored his first goal
since Sept. 25 against Jacksonville when he scored off a rebound by hitting
it past goalkeeper Jay Lupas into the open net just outside the goal box 11:41
into the contest. Annarumma's second goal of the season matched a career high
set during his sophomore season in 2010.
Janowski (Coram, N.Y.) blanked an opponent for the third
time since Oct. 6 when he posted five saves. He previously shut out Georgia
State and Towson with a pair of 1-0 victories, with his recent hot streak
accounting for his first three career shutouts. Janowski improved his record to 7-3.
Hofstra's defense held an opponent scoreless through 90
minutes for the fourth consecutive game, with the only goal allowed during that
stretch coming in the second overtime period by Northeastern in the previous
game.
A unit led by juniors Shaun Foster (Southport, England) and
Tyler Botte (North Babylon, N.Y.) along with senior A.J. Laza (Coram, N.Y.) and
midfielder Stephan Barea (Levittown, N.Y.) held Delaware to just five on-target
shots. Hofstra has not allowed a goal in regulation in the last 391:49 dating
to a second-half goal allowed in a 3-1 win at George Mason on Oct. 3.
Memic (Kozarac, Bosnia) netted his team-leading seventh goal
in the 70th minute when he scored off junior Chris Griebsch's touch pass,
finishing a one-timer to the lower right side of the goal. Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany) is second on the team with 16 points. The forward
picked up his team-best eighth assist.
Holland (London, England) added the final insurance marker when he
scored off a breakaway in the 80th minute. Holland raced down the left side
before potting his sixth goal of the campaign.
Hofstra only tallied six total shots but three went for scores with
Lupas saving two. Only of the Pride's shots was off target.
The Pride will host Drexel on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from
Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
