Hempstead, NY- The Hofstra Pride Men's tennis team dropped its second Colonial Athletic Association match of the season with a 7-0 loss to the Blue Hens of Delaware at the Hofstra Tennis Center Sunday. The Pride, which dropped its third consecutive match, fall to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Blue Hens swept through all three doubles matches with Troy Beneck and Andre Vorobyov defeating Chris Damion and Adrien Bailly, 8-0, at first doubles, CourtneyScott and Ryan Kent defeating Antonio Pena and Matthew Gemmell, 8-4, at second doubles, and Chris Hincker and Robert Kay defeating Ben Thompson-Star and Jon Disley, 8-3, at third doubles for the doubles team point.
Delaware swept through the singles competition, as well, losing four games or more in just two of the 12 sets. Andre Vorobyov defeated Ben Thompson-Star (HU) 6-0, 6-0, at third singles for a 2-0 lead. At fourth singles, Chris Hincker gave UD a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matthew Gemmell. Troy Beneck defeated Chris Damion, 6-1, 6-3 at second singles for a 4-0 lead. Courtney Scott posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Antonio Pena at first singles and Jeff Marshall defeated Jon Disley, 6-1, 6-2, at fifth singles. Ryan Kent closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jason Sinkoff.
The Pride return to action on Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face the Bobcats of Quinnipiac at 3 p.m.
