Hofstra University senior cornerback Nick Altomare has been named to the 2008 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 Football Team, CoSIDA announced Thursday.
Altomare, a senior cornerback from Fairfax, Virginia, has a 3.61 GPA in management. He is fourth on the Pride team in tackles this season with 41 and leads the squad with three interceptions. Altomare ranks ninth in the CAA with a 0.33 interception average. He also has five pass deflections and forced a fumble for Hofstra, which will face #7 Richmond this Saturday, November 8 at Shuart Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
The Robinson Secondary High School graduate is a three-time Hofstra Athetics Academic Honor Roll selection, a two-time member of the conference Academic All-Conference team, and was named to both the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team and the CoSIDA-ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team in 2007. He was also a semifinalist for the 2008 Draddy Trophy for excellence on the field and in the classroom.
Altomare will now advance to the national ballot with the academic all-district first team selections from the seven other districts. The 2008 CoSIDA-ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team will be announced on Tuesday, November 25.
