Senior Tytus Stempniewicz captured a straight set win at third singles to lead the Hofstra effort, but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra Men's Tennis Team dropped a 5-2 decision to Bryant on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The loss drops Hofstra's record to 1-2-1 this year, while Bryant won its season-opening dual match.
Stempniewicz won 7-6 (4), 6-1 at third singles over Tom Nowak for Hofstra's first win in the win and was joining on the winning sinde by sophomore Stian Tvedt who defeated Jose Rodriguez, 4-6, 6-2 (10-3) at second singles to account for Hofstra's other team point in the match.
Hofstra would drop both doubles matches by identical 8-5 scores and would get a hard fought match out of sophomore Matt Wacks at fourth singles. Wacks fell 2-6, 6-4 (8-10) to Kevin Gardiner in a tough three-set match.
Hofstra's four matches in four days road trip ends tomorrow with an 11 a.m. contest at Holy Cross.
