Led by a straight sets win from sophomore Matt Wacks at fourth singles, the Hofstra Men's Tennis team picked up its first in of the fall campaign as they narrowly defeated Boston University, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
In the doubles portion of the match, the Pride won the first and second doubles contest as Hofstra forfeited the third doubles match due to an incomplete lineup. Sophomore Stian Tvedt and senior Tytus Stempniewicz won 8-4 at first doubles before senior Nenad Radakovic and Wacks teamed up for 9-8 (7-3) victory at second doubles to clinch the doubles point.
Hofstra, which improved to 1-1-1 with the win, won the first, second and fourth singles matches to complete the 4-3 victory. Wacks earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bill Kring and was followed shortly thereafter by Radakovic and Tvedt, who the Pride reach the necessary four total team points. Both players had to go the distance, with Tvedt rallying after dropping the first set.
Hofstra continues its four-match road trip with an 11 a.m. contest at Bryant tomorrow before facing Holy Cross on Sunday at 11 a.m. as well.
