Led by a dominating effort from Tytus Stempniewicz at third singles, the Hofstra Men's Tennis team won its second straight match and ended its fall slate with a victory as they defeated Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)-rival George Mason, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon in Fairfax, Virginia.
The win pushed Hofstra's record to 3-2-1 during the fall schedule and Hofstra will return to action on February 14 when they travel to Quinnipiac for a 3 p.m. match.
Stempniewicz got the match started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lee Wexler, with Stian Tvedt and Matt Wacks each adding singles victories. Tvedt won 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (retired) over Dan Schneider, while Wacks dispatched of Jordan Lipstock 6-2, 7-6 (3) to give the Pride three singles points.
After forfeiting the third doubles match due to an incomplete lineup, Hofstra needed to win both remaining doubles matches to pull out the victory. Nenad Radakovic and Wacks would win 8-2 at second doubles before Stempniewicz and Tvedt clinched the win for Hofstra with an 8-6 victory over Brian Fitzgerald and Schneider at first doubles.
