HOFSTRA HAS STRONG OPENING DAY AT EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Hofstra Women's Tennis team had a strong opening day at the Eastern Championships in West Point, New York on Friday as the squad combined to post a 6-2 record in singles and a victory at second flight doubles.

 

Zoe Taylor got Hofstra rolling as she took out the #5 seed, Brett Finkelstein of Brown, 6-3, 7-5 to make her way into the quarterfinals.

 

Lauren Clifton also had a huge win on the day for the Pride as she advanced to the quarterfinals at third singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the tournament's number eight seed, Erica Federgreen of Stony Brook. 


Also still competing in singles is Christie Gattelaro and Morganne Downing.  Gattelaro is still alive in the flight two consolation bracket, while Downing is still active at flight four singles.

 

The doubles team of Valerie McDonald and Kristina Middlemiss earned an opening round 8-4 win over Bridget Finnerty and Dinka Keric of Siena before dropping an 8-1 decision to the tournament's #2 seed Katheriner Arlak and Chrstine Tran of Rutgers at flight two doubles.
