WRHU-FM TO BROADCAST INAUGURAL CAA FOOTBALL MEDIA DAY WEDNESDAY

7/23/2007 7:00:00 PM

Colonial Athletic Association Football makes its debut this Wednesday, July 25 when the conference conducts its inaugural Media Day at the ESPN Zone at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland. WRHU-FM (88.7), the home for Hofstra sports, will air the event live. The broadcast, which will run from 10am-12:30pm, will include interviews with CAA head football coaches and student-athletes, along with CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager.

Among the many student-athletes scheduled to attend the event is Hofstra All-American, senior kicker Rob Zarrilli (Orlando, FL). Hofstra Pride football coach Dave Cohen and Zarrilli will be interviewed in the noon segment. WRHU Sports Director Matt Shortis, as well as Scott Miller and Brett Zoeller will serve as hosts. WRHU is Long Island's oldest non-commercial radio station and reaches most of Long Island and New York City, as well as parts of Connecticut and New Jersey.

The CAA assumed control of the membership of the Atlantic 10 Football Conference at the conclusion of the 2006 season. The quality and depth of CAA Football is unmatched in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly I-AA. Ten of the league's 12 teams have participated in the NCAA playoffs over the past six seasons and at least one team has advanced to the national semifinals in seven of the last 10 years.

The conference is coming off a sensational 2006 campaign in which multiple teams were selected to postseason play for the 16th year in a row, extending the longest active streak in the nation. Massachusetts advanced to the national championship game, becoming the third different CAA Football team to reach the finals over the past four years. New Hampshire quarterback Ricky Santos, who returns in 2007, earned the Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding player in the FCS becoming the conference's sixth recipient of the prestigious honor. In addition three league players were finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in the FCS.
