HOFSTRA TO PLAY I-A MARSHALL IN 2006

2/8/2006 3:00:00 PM

Hofstra University Head Football Coach Dave Cohen today announced that I-A Marshall University has been added to the Pride's 2006 football schedule. The Pride and the Thundering Herd will meet on Saturday, September 9 at Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Hofstra-Marshall match-up will mark the Pride's second encounter with the Thundering Herd since 2003 and the third meeting overall. The two teams last met on August 30, 2003 at Marshall with the Thundering Herd recording a 45-21 victory in the season opener for both teams. Hofstra also faced Marshall, then a I-AA member, in the 1995 regular season finale and dropped a 30-28 decision in Huntington.

"I am excited about the opportunity to play against a quality I-A program like Marshall," Pride coach Dave Cohen stated. "I am also excited for our players who will be given the opportunity to compete in a great college football environment like Huntington, West Virginia."

This year's game against the Herd will be the Pride's third contest against a I-A member since joining the I-AA ranks in 1994. In addition to the Marshall contest in 2003, Hofstra downed Buffalo 20-13 in 1999 in the only other major college match-up. The complete 2006 Hofstra football schedule will be announced in the near future.
