Courtney Deena was named a Hofstra Field Hockey Assistant Coach in June 2019.
Deena comes to Hofstra after playing on the University of Louisville Women’s Lacrosse team and earning a master’s degree in sports coaching from Ohio State University in 2018. At Louisville in 2018, she played in six games for the Cardinals.
Deena, a native of Pickerington, Ohio, was a four-year letterwinner in field hockey at her alma mater, the University of Maryland, from 2013 through the 2016 seasons, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies in 2017.
During her field hockey career with the Terps, she played in 50 games with 17 starts on defense and was part of three consecutive Big 10 regular season championships from 2014 through 2016, three consecutive Big 10 Tournament Championship game appearances including the 2015 championship, and four NCAA Championship Tournament appearances. As a senior in 2016, she played in 22 games and started 17 Deena was also part of Maryland’s Atlantic Coast Conference Championship team and NCAA Championship Final Four squad as a freshman in 2013.
As a student at Maryland, Deena served as the social media strategist and the online community manager for the Women in Leadership Development (WILD), was a lead community coordinator for the Service 24/7 Program, and served on the executive board of the Arts and Humanities Dean’s Advisory Board as a senior
Deena, who is a USA Field Hockey Level I accredited coach, has been a coach in the USA Field Hockey Futures Program since 2013. She is also a U.S Lacrosse Level I certified coach and a Level I certified coaches educator. Deena is the founder of the Elite Field Hockey and Lacrosse Club in Columbus, Ohio in 2017.
Deena was a two-sport scholastic student-athlete at Columbus Academy in Ohio where she tallied 56 goals and 53 assists in field hockey, helped lead the team to a 74-6-3 record, four district championships, four state final four appearances an Ohio Championship in 2012 and was a two-time Harrow Sports/NFHCA High School All-American including a senior. She also played four years of varsity lacrosse in high school, recording 258 goals, 164 assists and 102 draw controls during her career.
Deena’s father, Norman, is a native of Hempstead, New York and played lacrosse at Hobart College.
