In his first track meet of 2022 at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic, Markovina ran a personal-best time of 8:23.72 in the 3000m to finish fifth in his heat and 47th overall. He surpassed his previous personal-best time of 8:32.04 from the 2020 Boston University Last Chance Qualifier, and his time on Sunday moved him to second all-time in the 3000m in Hofstra indoor track history.
