Nick Kapatos joined the Hofstra University Department of Athletics in March, 2020, as the assistant director of athletic communications.
Kapatos comes to Hofstra from Michigan Technological University, where he was the Assistant Director of Athletic Communication from 2018-2020 and was the primary media contact for the women’s soccer, cross country, track & field, and Nordic Ski programs. In addition, he was the Chief of Media for the 2020 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships, and was also responsible for the promotion of Michigan Tech Recreation, Intramurals, and the Outdoor Adventure Program. He was responsible for managing the team webpages and social media pages, writing press releases, creating graphics for social media, editing videos for Michigan Tech Athletics and Recreation, and more.
Kapatos began his career in February 2013 as the media contact for the varsity boy’s lacrosse team at the Ravenscroft School, a private K-12 school in Raleigh, North Carolina, managing all communications and external outreach for the program.
Kapatos moved on to Florida Southern College in August 2013 to become the Sports Information Assistant as his first position at an NCAA institution. He served as the primary media contact for men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s lacrosse, and he was the secondary contact for volleyball and women’s basketball.
In his next position, Kapatos was the sports information graduate assistant at Grand Valley State University. From 2014-2016, Kapatos was the primary contact for the Grand Valley State women’s lacrosse, men’s and women tennis, and men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs. He also served as the primary media contact for the GLIAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament in 2015 and 2016, and was the secondary media contact for the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, all events hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Kapatos returned to the Ravenscroft School as the athletic communications intern in August 2016. In his second go-around at Ravenscroft, Kapatos was primarily responsible for promoting and publicizing all 21 varsity athletic programs to the local and state media as well as overseeing the department’s website and social media outlets.
A native of Long Island, Kapatos grew up in Levittown and attended Shoreham-Wading River High School, where he was a member of the 2007 NYSPHSAA Class C State Championship-winning boys' lacrosse team. Kapatos graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he was a student-assistant for the athletic strategic communications department, in December 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in media studies. Kapatos also obtained a master’s degree in communications from Grand Valley State in April 2016.
