Lance White

Lance White has joined the Hofstra women’s basketball coaching staff as the associate head women's basketball coach as of May 2024. 

Prior to joining the Pride for the upcoming 2024-25 season, White was the head coach at Pittsburgh from 2018-23. Rebounding became a strength of the Panthers under White’s guidance, improving from 14th in the ACC in his first season in charge to first in the conference in 2022-23 with 43.9 rebounds per game, and the finished the 2022-23 season ninth in the country for one of the biggest improvements at the Division I level. White coached transfer Jayla Everett to Honorable Mention All-ACC honors in 2020-21, only the second Panther to earn All-Conference honors in program history. In the classroom, White saw seven student-athletes receive All-ACC Academic honors. 

White was previously the associate head coach at Florida State for 15 seasons before his first head coaching position at Pittsburgh. White helped the Seminoles to a 350-145 record during his tenure in Tallahassee, including 12 seasons of at least 20 wins and four consecutive seasons with 25+ wins, and he helped coach the team to ACC titles in 2010 and 2011. In 2017, White was honored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association as the National Assistant Coach of the Year. 

White began his coaching career at in 1996 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, as a graduate assistant before being elevated to assistant coach in 1998. In his 10 years on the Lady Raider staff, Texas Tech won three Big 12 championships and made two trips to the Elite Eight. White was also a student assistant on Texas Tech's 1993 national championship team, and he has worked with National Player of the Year and three-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoops and 2007 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year winner Plenette Pierson. 

A native of Spur, Texas, White is a double graduate of Texas Tech, receiving his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science and his master’s degree in sports administration. White and his wife Melanie are the proud parents of two kids, Quentin and Vivian both in college.
