James Wilson joins the Hofstra University Department of Athletics as an assistant athletic trainer beginning in June 2026.
Wilson joins the Pride after spending the previous year on the head athletic trainer for Brooklyn FC Women in the USL Super League. Wilson provided primary athletic training coverage to all Brooklyn FC Women athletes, as well as collaborating with the head of performance and all performance coaches to develop injury prevention protocols, assisting in programming for gym sessions to emphasize proper technique, and coordinating with team medical staff to provide evidence-based medical care to athletes. Prior to his time at Brooklyn FC Women, Wilson spent over two years as an athletic trainer for New York City Football Club youth academy from January 2023 through June 2025, where he provided primary coverage to the academy athletes, developed injury prevention protocols, and provided holistic medical care and rehabilitation for over 100 NYCFC academy athletes.
In addition to his time in professional soccer, Wilson brings with him experience in the college ranks as an assistant athletic trainer at Cumberland University from July 2021 through December 2022, in addition to his experience as an intern athletic trainer at Newberry College from August 2020 until July 2021, and as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at East Stroudsburg University from July 2019 until his graduation in July 2020.
Wilson graduated with his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of South Carolina in 2019, where he was a student athletic trainer for the football, softball, and men’s soccer programs, and he earned his master’s degree in advanced clinical practice from East Stroudsburg University. He is a certified athletic trainer by the BOC and New York State.
