Drew Metz

Drew Metz is in his second year as an assistant coach with the Hofstra men's basketball program and brings a strong track record of success at the collegiate, high school, and grassroots levels.

During the 2025-26 season, Metz helped Hofstra author one of the finest campaigns in program history. The Pride captured the Coastal Athletic Association Championship and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2001 after posting 24 victories. Hofstra's success extended beyond team accomplishments, as the Pride produced three All-CAA selections, including the conference's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Hofstra became the first institution in CAA history to claim both major awards in the same season, capping a memorable year that returned the Pride to the national stage.

Prior to Hofstra, Metz spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Marist, where he played a pivotal role in the program's resurgence. During his tenure, the Red Foxes reached their first MAAC Championship game in 2023, earned their highest conference tournament seed in 16 years, and recorded their highest win totals in nearly two decades. In recognition of his impact, Metz was named to Silver Waves Media's "75 Rising Stars: Impactful Men's Mid-Major Assistants" list in 2023. His responsibilities included opponent scouting, player development, recruiting strategy, and leading individual skill workouts across multiple positions.

While at Marist, Metz assisted in the recruitment of four All-MAAC honorees: Josh Pascarelli (First Team), Patrick Gardner (Second Team), Rhyjon Backwell (Sixth Man of the Year), and Jaden Daughtry (All-Defensive Team).

Before his time at Marist, Metz spent five years as an assistant basketball coach at Long Island Lutheran High School (LuHi), helping guide the Crusaders to a New York State AA Federation Championship and multiple national Top 25 finishes.

Metz also served as Program Director and 17U Head Coach for the NY Jayhawks (adidas 3SSB), helping more than 50 student-athletes navigate the college recruiting process.

A native of Deer Park, New York, Metz earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in sport management from St. John's University, where he began his career as a student manager and administrative assistant with the men's basketball program.
