Arielle Shuren, who joined the Hofstra University tennis staff as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs on January 30, 2023, was elevated to the position of head men’s tennis coach on September 6, 2023.

As head coach of the men's tennis program, Shuren has led the team to clinch a CAA Championship berth as the No. 5 seed at the 2025 Championships, the highest seed in program history, while closing out the regular season with a 9-7 winning record. Shuren coached three student-athletes to earn All-CAA recognition for their performance during the 2024-25 season and one student-athlete to earn the honor during the 2023-24 season.

Under her guidance, seven student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes in both 2023-24 and 2024-25 and all four members of the class of 2025 were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. The 2024-25 team was recognized by the CAA with the highest GPA in the conference, while the 2023-24 team earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition.

In her first year as head coach, Shuren guided student-athletes Ostap Kovalenko and Jonathan Mahrt-Guyou through ITA Regionals to become the first doubles team in program history to qualify for ITA Super Regional competition. Under her coaching, Kovalenko advanced to the ITA All-American Championships pre-qualifying tournament and the team was undefeated at home during the spring 2024 season.

A four-year letter winner at the University of Delaware, Shuren brought a plethora of tennis knowledge and coaching experience to the Pride. She came to Hofstra after spending time as an assistant coach with the St. John’s University women’s tennis program. Prior to that she served as a volunteer assistant coach at Rutgers University.

A 2018 University of Delaware graduate, Shuren played both first singles and doubles, winning many accolades along the way. She won numerous CAA Player of the Week awards, won doubles championships at the Navy and Saint Joseph's Invitationals, and was an ITA Atlantic Regional singles and doubles participant.

Shuren has also competed in several Women’s Tennis Association tour events and won the Mount Vernon Mixed Doubles Title with partner Daniel Piludo. In 2022, Shuren was selected as one of six women to represent Team USA at the International Maccabiah Games held in Jerusalem, Israel. She advanced to the quarterfinals in women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles at the event.

In the classroom, Shuren was on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll as a health and behavior science major with a minor in health, physical activity and disability. She then went on to obtain a master's degree from Delaware in clinical exercise physiology. Shuren uses her unique scientific training methods to bring out the best performance in the student-athletes she coaches.

As a certified instructor and member of the Professional Tennis Registry, Shuren has spent many years training high performing junior players and has been an instructor at West Point Military Academy and The Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She has also served as the director of tennis at Spring Lake Camp in New Jersey. Shuren currently trains several WTA touring professionals, including WTA player Bernarda Pera (career high #27) through the National Bank Open at the Montreal WTA 100, Cincinnati Open, and the US Open qualifying. She has also worked as a High Performance Fitness Coach at Magnus Potential in New Jersey, and has completed internships with the United States Tennis Association and Titus Sports Academy. Additionally, Shuren has worked as a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation for Northwell Health.
