Liz Kobak joined the Hofstra Tennis staff as an assistant coach on April 15, 2019.
Kobak, the 2014 Professional Tennis Registry Female Player of the Year, has been a Women’s Tennis Association globally-ranked player, reaching as high as No. 570 in singles and No. 660 in doubles. She was also the No. 1 ranked junior tennis player in the United States at one point. She is currently the reigning No. 1 ranked player by the USTA in the women’s 30 and over division after claiming the Grass Court Nationals in singles at her home club, The West Side Tennis Club, in Forest Hills, Queens. She has also been a grass court champion at the National Open in Newport, Rhode Island, with wins over players from UCLA and Baylor.
During her playing career, Kobak has scored wins over future Grand Slam finalists Sara Errani, Sabine Lisicki and Dominika Cibulkova. She has also competed in the Junior US Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open and the Orange Bowl as well as WTA tier tournaments in Forest Hills, Acapulco and Budapest.
Kobak was the top-ranked recruit out of high school according to tennisrecruiting.net and played at Columbia University as an undergraduate and one year at Northwestern as a graduate student. During her scholastic career, she won the Girls 16s Super National Hard Court Championships in San Diego, California.
After earning a master's in broadcast journalism from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, Kobak founded Kobak Communications, a public relations and marketing firm in New York City. She also is a television news producer for RNN-TV in Rye, New York, as well as a columnist for INYBN, a print publication with a circulation of 8,000 readers in Key Biscayne, Florida. Kobak also been a contributor on USOpen.org, talkSPORT radio in London, World Tennis Magazine, and ExcelleSports.com.
Kobak, who also has a degree in art history from Columbia College of Columbia University, resides in New York City.
