Julie Meyer

Julie Meyer completed her sixth season with the Hofstra softball program following the 2020 season. Meyer joined the Hofstra coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2015 and was promoted to associate head coach following the 2018 season. She previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi for three seasons before coming to Hofstra.

In her six seasons, Meyer has helped lead the Pride to a pair of Colonial Athletic Association championships (2015, 2018) while making three appearances in the title game. In addition, Meyer has been a member of the NFCA's Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2015 and 2018.

In 2019, Meyer mentored six All-CAA selections, including CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Kristin Hallam and Co-Rookie of the Year, Meghan Giordano. That year, Alexis Goeke was named to the First Team, while Courtney Scarpato, Kasey Collins, and Madison Burns also garnered All-Conference accolades. Four Pride players went on to earn NFCA All-Northeast Region distinctions, including Giordano (First Team), Scarpato (Second Team), Collins (Second Team) and Angelina Ioppolo (Third Team). In addition, a program-record 11 student-athletes received All-America Scholar Athlete Distinction by the NFCA, and Hallam was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team.

In Meyer's first season in 2015, Hofstra won the Colonial Athletic Association title after going 38-14-1 and earned a berth in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Pitcher Morgan Lashley and outfielder Caryn Bailey earned NFCA all-region first-team honors working under a staff that Meyer heavily influenced.

In 2016, the team finished 24-22, and six members of the Pride were honored with CAA postseason awards. In addition, Brielle Pietrafesa and Nikki Michalowski were named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region Third Team.

Meyer helped the Pride back to the CAA Championship in 2017, with Hofstra entering the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Pride finished the season at 27-23, and three members of the team earned All-CAA postseason awards, including Pietrafesa, an outfielder who worked directly with Meyer.

The Pride recaptured the CAA title in 2018 and returned to the NCAA Regional, with Hofstra returning to the national polls for the first time since 2013 and ranking 18th in the season's final RPI. With Meyer's help, the Pride finished the season 41-14, with eight players earning All-CAA honors and seven being named to NFCA All-Region teams. All three of the team's starting outfielders (Michalowski, Pietrafesa and Courtney Scarpato), who worked directly with Meyer, earned at least one postseason honor.

Meyer came to Hofstra after serving as the first base and infield/catchers coach with the Mississippi program. During her time in Oxford, Meyer was responsible for player development while serving as a liaison with the school’s academic support staff. On the field, she focused on defensive skills and developing the program’s slap hitters. She also was responsible for coordinating team travel and organizing the Ole Miss softball camps while playing a key role in recruiting.

Meyer’s impact on the Rebels was seen on the defensive side, as the 2013 squad set a program record with a .979 fielding percentage, which was the fifth best nationally despite freshmen starting at both middle infield positions.

Before arriving at Mississippi, Meyer was an assistant at Memphis in 2011, where she coached an infield that recorded 10 or fewer errors at every position and set a school record for the most runners caught stealing. At Memphis, she also was responsible for the program’s travel arrangements and was in charge of recruiting in Texas, the west coast and in the northeast.

Meyer started her coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of California, where she played as a first baseman and catcher from 2004 to 2008. At the time of her graduation, she ranked fourth all-time in the program's history with 25 home runs. She slammed a walk-off ninth inning single in the 2008 NCAA Regional Championship game, which sent Cal to the Super Regional. In 2005 Cal advanced to the College World Series with Meyer starting every game at first base. She played in four NCAA Regionals and three NCAA Super Regionals in total.

Meyer graduated from California in 2010 with a degree in sociology. She has worked at various California softball clinics and has volunteered with Special Olympics as an instructor. She was elected captain in 2007-08 and served as the softball representative to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She was awarded the Donna Terry Scholarship for her outstanding team leadership in 2007.
