Patrick Mars joins the Hofstra University Department of Sports Medicine in January 2022 as the assistant athletic trainer, and will work directly with the Hofstra Men's and Women's Golf and Hofstra Men's Lacrosse programs.
Mars comes to Hofstra from the University at Albany, where he was an assistant athletic trainer since August 2016. Mars worked directly with the UAlbany football, men’s lacrosse and men’s soccer programs, and was additionally responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of student-athlete treatment and rehabilitation programs, as well as maintaining up-to-date medical records and communicating pertinent injury information with coaches and sports performance staff.
In addition to his time at UAlbany, Mars brings experience from his time at Hudson Valley Community College from August 2016 through May 2018, and at the United States Military Academy at West Point from May 2015 through May 2016. While at Hudson Valley Community College, he assisted with coverage of the men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey programs, and he handled baseline concussion testing for all USMA cadets.
Mars was an undergraduate athletic training student at SUNY Cortland, where he received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training in May 2016. He assisted with coverage of the Red Dragons men’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, wrestling and football programs.
Mars received his master’s degree in fitness and wellness leadership in December 2020 from SUNY Plattsburgh. He is CPR/AED certified and BOC certified, is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), and is a New York State licensed athletic trainer.
