A 1986 graduate of Hofstra, Gades was a four-time All-East Coast Conference selection.  Currently third all-time with 1,500 career kills, she still to this day holds individual match records for kills with 33 and blocks with 24.  The team most valuable player in 1984 and 1985, Gades was a four-time All-East Coast Conference (ECC) selection and was the 1985 ECC Most Valuable Player. 
 
During her time with the Pride, Hofstra compiled a record of 111-48 with three ECC titles.  Gades' career hitting percentage of .392 still ranks tenth all-time in NCAA history and she holds six single season records and is the program's all-time leader in block solos, block assists, blocks and blocks per set.
