PURPOSE
Mission of the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club
The Hofstra Athletics Pride Club consists of Hofstra alumni, parents and friends of Hofstra Athletics who work in cooperation with the Athletics Department and the Office for Development and Alumni Affairs to support the fund-raising efforts for intercollegiate athletics. Funds raised by the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club are used to enhance scholarship support, augment operational needs and make possible capital improvements for more than 400 student-athletes and coaches.
Organizational Structure
Established in 1989, the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club is a chartered group of the Hofstra Alumni Organization and is led by a board of directors. Upon recommendation and nomination by an ad hoc membership committee, the Pride Club elects new board members and officers at its annual meeting. The full board of directors meets quarterly, while the executive committee meets once a month. The Pride Club holds an open meeting each year, usually in September. This meeting is open to all current Pride Club members. The President of the University, the Director of Athletics and the Hofstra Pride Club executive director are non-voting ex-officio members of the Hofstra Pride Club board of directors.
Financial Structure
Fifteen (15) percent of each gift is directed to the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club unrestricted account to cover operating expenses. The remaining 85 percent is deposited into the designated fund of the donor's choice.
Designated Gifts:
Each sport has a designated gift account. In addition, there are designated accounts for capital improvements, athletic scholarships, and women's athletics. Designated gifts are used for the program so designated by the donor.
Undesignated Gifts:
Undesignated gifts are allocated to the Pride Club unrestricted account. These funds are used for Pride Club operating expenses, the annual student-athlete banquet and projects that support Hofstra Athletics.
