Hofstra Has Strong Start To Hofstra Pride Invitational

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra doubles teams of Aryanah Kahnamoui and Marcella Roversi and Sheryl Halim and Aida Oviedo advanced to the semifinals, while six Pride singles players advanced to the round of 16 on day one of the Hofstra Pride Invitational Friday at the Hofstra University Tennis Courts. 

Kahnamoui and Roversi won their opening match, 6-0, over New Haven's Petra Horvath and Victoria Chioreanu and followed that with a 7-6 (6) victory over Micaela Rosignulo and Pierina Lescher of New Haven in the quarterfinals. 

Halim and Oviedo received a first round bye and defeated Siena's Zaara Omar and Ana Savkovic, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. 

The Pride's third doubles team of Ava Veneziano and Isabella Cardinal won their first round match over New Haven's Fredericka Franco and Victoria Atkinson, 6-3. The duo then suffered a quarterfinal round loss to New Haven's Ines Fernandez and Victoria Togores by a score of 6-4. 

In singles play, Roversi, Halim, Khanamoui, Cardinal, Oviedo, and Katarina Drinchich all advanced to the second round. Roversi and Khanamoui received byes, while Halim advanced by injury forfeit. Cardinal won a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Horvath, Drinchich picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Atkinson; and Oviedo won 6-1, 6-0 over Franco. 

Veneziano dropped her first round match to New Haven's Addison Rosser (6-4, 6-2) and moves into the consolation bracket. 

The Hofstra Pride Invitational continues Saturday with a 10 a.m. start time.
