Bromfield's Equalizer Gives Hofstra A 1-1 Draw With Columbia

Hempstead, NY - Alexia Bromfield scored the equalizer with just over 11 minutes to play as Hofstra posted a 1-1 draw against Columbia Friday afternoon in the Pride's home opener at Captains Field. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday night but was postponed due to weather.

Hofstra moved to 0-1-1 on the season with the draw. Columbia was playing their season opener.

Following a scoreless first half that saw Columbia hold a commanding advantage (7-1) in shots, the Lions broke through at 49:03 as Helena Andrzejewski headed in a cross from Leila Hawkins. The play was reviewed for a possible offsides call, but the goal stood.

With Columbia in a defensive mindset following the goal, Hofstra did not get many strong scoring chances. But a foul near midfield resulted in a free kick for the Pride and Alexia Des Croisselles sent a kick into the box that Bromfield headed over Columbia keeper Samantha Mahoney's head for her first career goal at 78:53. The Pride defense would hold Columbia without a shot on goal the rest of the game, while the Pride had one shot on goal that was saved by Mahoney.

Hofstra returns to action Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Fordham.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 11-6-4 all-time versus Columbia.
-Columbia had an 11-4 edge in shots.
-Lilly Bailey made two first half saves for the Pride.
