Hofstra Falls to Connecticut

Storrs, CT – Alanna Morse blasted her ninth home run of the season, but the Hofstra softball team suffered an 11-3 defeat in five innings to Connecticut in a midweek non-conference contest from Burrill Family Field at the Connecticut Softball Complex.

The loss snaps Hofstra's four-game winning streak and puts the Pride at 26-19 on the season. On the other side, Connecticut is now 23-24 overall.

The Huskies led 1-0 after the first inning with a solo home run, and the home side added three runs in the third to lead 4-0. Gemma D'Orazio drove in the Pride's first run of the day with an RBI single between the legs of the Connecticut pitcher, scoring Dahlia Palacio from third to cut the deficit to three in the top of the fourth.

However, the Huskies broke the game open with a three-run bottom of the fourth to lead by six, before Morse belted a two-run home run over the wall in center field to bring Hofstra to within four of Connecticut in the top of the fifth. Unfortunately, the Huskies scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

D'Orazio, Morse, and Palacio represented all three of Hofstra's hits against Connecticut. Madison Steppe, Jillian Locher, Emma Brennan, and Casey McKeon all combined for four strikeouts from the circle.

Hofstra will next face Lehigh and Rutgers in a doubleheader on Saturday from Piscataway, New Jersey, with Hofstra taking on Lehigh at 12 p.m. before taking on the host Scarlet Knights at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be shown on Big Ten Plus.
