Hempstead, NY – Pitchers
Emma Falen and Katelyn Hubley went pitch-for-pitch in dual complete game performances, but it was Hubley and Campbell that came out on top in a 2-0 win over the Hofstra softball team to complete the three-game series on Bill Edwards Day/Alumni Day.
Hofstra is now 22-18 on the year with a 15-3 CAA mark, while Campbell improved to 25-17 overall and 12-3 in league play with the close win.
After two scoreless innings for both sides, a costly error in the third inning allowed Campbell to take a 2-0 lead before Falen shut down the Fighting Camels bats for the remainder of the day, surrendering just two hits and one walk after the third inning. On the other side, Hubley was in complete control against the Pride, striking out 11 batters while scattering two hits.
Ryleigh Smith came the closest to breaking Hubley's shutout with a deep drive to center field in the bottom of the fifth, but Campbell's Charlie Montgomery made an acrobatic play at the wall to make the catch.
Falen finished the day with five strikeouts in 109 pitches, while
Lily Yepez and
Chelsea Villar were responsible for Hofstra's two hits in the loss.
The Pride faces Fairfield on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Connecticut before traveling to Suffolk County for a three-game CAA series against Stony Brook beginning on Friday.
