Falen, Fitzgerald Lead Hofstra Past Stony Brook To Clinch Series Win

Farmingdale, NY - Mackenzie Fitzgerald's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Hofstra a 2-1 lead to back the strong pitching of Emma Falen as the Pride picked up the one-run victory over Stony Brook Saturday in a CAA game at the Farmingdale State Softball Complex. The win clinched the series for the Pride ahead of Sunday's finale.

Hofstra moved to 5-10 overall and 2-0 in the CAA with the win, while the Seawolves dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-2 in league action.

Stony Brook took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run off the bat of Emma Scheitinger. That was the only blemish on Falen's ledger as she allowed just three hits and struck out seven in the complete game victory. The senior improved her record to 2-5.

Hofstra's rally started with Lily Yepez reaching on an error to lead off the frame. Alanna Morse followed with a double that put runners on second and third with no outs. After Stony Brook got the next two outs, Fitzgerald singled up the middle to plate both runners.

The Seawolves put the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh via an error and sacrifice bunt. But Falen got a strikeout for the second out and Morse made a nice over the shoulder catch in shallow left field for the final out.

Aubrey Jepson (0-6) took the loss for Stony Brook, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings. Ella Hayes had a pair of hits for the Seawolves.

The teams conclude the series Sunday with a 4 p.m. first pitch in Farmingdale.
