Hofstra Falls at Yale

New Haven, CT – After leading Yale 4-1 entering the seventh inning, the Hofstra softball team surrendered three runs in the final frame to fall 5-4 to the Bulldogs from 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium. Hofstra is now 9-13 overall while Yale improves to 7-12 with its walk-off victory over the Pride.
 
Alanna Morse led off the game with a solo home run to center field, but Yale evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Dahlia Palacio put the Pride back in front with an RBI double of her own in the third inning, scoring Lily Yepez from first base to make it a 2-1 Hofstra lead. Gemma D'Orazio upped the lead to two with an RBI double, and Chelsea Villar drove in another run to make it 4-1 on a double in the sixth inning.
 
The deficit was cut to two in the Yale half of the sixth inning on a single to Morse at shortstop. Yale drew a leadoff walk in the seventh inning, followed by a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a strikeout, the Yale batter doubled home a run to draw the Bulldogs closer to the Pride. Emma Falen forced a popout to third base for the second out, but the next Yale batter drove a single to left field to score the tying and winning runs.
 
Morse recorded two of Hofstra's seven hits. Falen tallied four strikeouts in 123 pitches thrown in the loss.
 
Hofstra resumes its CAA schedule with a three-game series at Hampton in Virginia. First pitch in Friday's series opener is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 10-3 all-time against Yale. This is the first time the two programs have met since March 5, 2023 at THE Spring Games.
-Villar recorded her third stolen base of the season.
-Yale stranded five Hofstra players on base.
