Washington, DC - Led by CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player Preston Edmead, who scored a game and season-high 26 points, third-seeded Hofstra defeated fourth-seeded Monmouth, 75-69, to win the CAA Championship Tuesday night at CareFirst Arena. The win gave the Pride an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, Hofstra's first appearance since 2001.

Hofstra improved to 24-10 with its seventh consecutive victory. Monmouth is 19-15.

In a close game, where neither team led by more than seven, it was Hofstra who took the lead for good with 14:29 to play as Silas Sunday's layup broke a 45-45 tie. The lead grew to seven, 58-51, with 9:01 to play after two free throws from Sunday.

Monmouth would get within one, 66-65, with 1:18 to go on a three-pointer from Justin Ray. But German Plotnikov answered with a three-pointer and Edmead added two free throws to push the lead back to six with 14 seconds to play. Monmouth would hit a three with nine seconds to go, but Cruz Davis and Plotnikov each sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.

Edmead added four rebounds and four assists on the night. Davis had 12 points and five assists, while Plotnikov had 10 points. Sunday pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
