Hempstead, NY - Hofstra's Teague Strobel upset No. 24/23 Ayden Smith at 125 pounds, but the 11th-ranked Scarlet Knights won the final nine weights to post a 45-3 victory over the Pride Wednesday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The match was Hofstra's final home dual of the season.

Rutgers moved to 14-5 on the season with the victory in their final match of the regular season. Hofstra dropped to 3-15 on the year. 

Strobel got the Pride started off on the right foot with a win over Smith, ranked 24 by InterMat and 23 by FloWrestling. The math was tied at 1 going into overtime. Neither wrestler scored in the sudden victory period. Each wrestler scored an escape in the ensuing 30-second overtime's with Strobel earning the 3-2 win via tiebreaker. 

Gauge Shipp had a competitive match at 133 against No. 25/31 Dylan Shawver. The Pride sophomore was in a one-point match in the third period before the returning All-American from Rutgers pulled away. Rutgers would earn bonus points in seven of the next eight bouts. Jake Slotnick was able to keep it close against No. 18/20 Andrew Barbosa in a 4-1 loss. 

Hofstra will have one last competition before the EIWA Championships, as the Pride will head to the Patriot Last Chance Open at George Mason on Sunday. 

Notes: 
-Rutgers leads the all-time series against Hofstra, 17-9-1.
-Strobel's win over a ranked opponent was his first of the season and avenged an earlier season loss against Smith at the Keystone Classic.
