Hofstra celebrated senior night before its dual versus Brown

Shipp, Liardi Shine For Hofstra Versus Harvard, Brown

Hempstead, NY - Gauge Shipp and Chase Liardi each picked up a pair of wins, including one ranked win each, but Hofstra dropped dual matches to Harvard (25-9) and Brown (22-17) Sunday at the Mack Physical Education Center. 

Hofstra dropped to 3-14 overall with the losses. Harvard is 5-6, while Brown is 4-8. 
 
In the opening dual of the day, Hofstra held a 6-3 lead after three bouts following wins by Shipp at 133 and Liardi at 141. Shipp posted a 5-1 upset over No. 32 Coleman Nogle, while Liardi blanked Dante Frinzi, 3-0. The Crimson won the next five weights, with a tech fall, two major decisions, and two decisions before Will Conlon picked up the win for the Pride at 197 with a 2-0 victory over Hudson Skove. The final bout of the dual went to sudden victory as Adrian Sans and Daniel Bittner were deadlocked at one after seven minutes. The Harvard 285-pounder picked up the 4-1 win with a take down in the final seconds of the first sudden victory period.  

In the nightcap, Teague Strobel (tech fall at 125), Shipp (fall at 133), and Liardi (decision at 141 over No. 32 Khimari Manns) staked the Pride to a 14-5 lead. But the Bears chipped away with wins by No. 29 Austin McBurney at 149 and Ethan Mojena at 157 to get within two, 14-12. Jake Slotnick gave the Pride a little breathing room at 165 with a 4-3 decision, but Drew Clearie won a decision at 174 and Connor O'Donnell's decision at 184 put Brown on top to stay, 18-17. No. 15 Andrew Reall secured the match win for the Bears with a major decision at 197 to close the contest. 

Hofstra returns to action Wednesday night at 6 p.m. when it hosts Rutgers at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Tickets are available at HofstraTickets.com.

-Hofstra celebrated Senior Night before the Brown match, recognizing Liardi, Matt Rogers, Adrian Sans, and Eric Shindel
-Hofstra is 10-13-1 all-time versus Harvard.
-The Pride is 4-12 all-time versus Brown.
-Shipp has won five consecutive matches.
-Liardi is on a three-match win streak.
