Hofstra Tames Tigers With 1-0 Win At Princeton

Princeton, NJ - The Hofstra University men's soccer team turned in a sparkling defensive effort, limiting Princeton to no shots on goal, and Laurie Goddard's penalty kick goal was the difference in a 1-0 Pride victory Wednesday night at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The win was Hofstra's second in a row.

The Pride improved to 3-2-0 on the season, while the Tigers dipped to 1-1-0. Princeton entered the night as the top team also receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Following a scoreless first half that saw the teams combine for four shots (none on goal), Goddard would give the Pride a chance at the 62:54 mark as he was fouled inside the 18-yard box to earn the penalty kick. The Preseason CAA Player of the Year converted the attempt and the Hofstra defense made it stand.

Hofstra keeper Gino Cervoni, making his second career start, did not make a save in recording his first career shutout. Princeton's defense was also solid, holding the Pride to three shots on goal. Keeper Andrew Samuels made two saves.

The Pride returns to action Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host Stony Brook in a CAA battle. Prior to the game, Hofstra Athletics will hold its annual block party from 5-7 p.m., adjacent to Captains Field.

Notes:
-Tonight marked the first meeting between Hofstra and Princeton.
-Goddard has three penalty kick goals this season in as many attempts.
-Both of Goddard's shots were on target, while Daniel Burko's one shot was also on goal.
-The Pride is 2-1 on the road this season.
