Buies Creek, NC – A seventh-inning rally against top-seeded and regular season Coastal Athletic Association champions Delaware came up just short for the Hofstra softball team, as the sixth-seeded Pride saw its 2025 season come to an end with a 7-5 loss to the Blue Hens from Amanda Littlejohn Stadium at the 2025 CAA Championship.
Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With runners on the corners after a lead-off error and a one-out single by

Chelsea Villar beat the throw home on a grounder from
Dahlia Palacio to put the Pride on the board first, and
Mackenzie Fitzgerald drew a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-0.
Delaware took the lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2, and a run in the second put the Blue Hens ahead by two. After leading off the fifth inning with a triple to the wall in left field,
Lily Yepez scored on a Delaware fielding error to bring the Pride to within one, but Delaware plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead heading into the seventh frame.
Kellie Sandas drew a five-pitch walk to lead off the seventh inning, and Villar drove a double to right to put runners in scoring position with one out.
Alanna Morse stepped up and brought home pinch-running
Victoria Frobosilo with an RBI single to make it 7-4, and Butler followed up with an RBI single to left of her own to bring the Pride to within two. After Morse was called out at third on a tight play,
Tyler Douglas went down swinging for the final out of Hofstra's season.
Butler and Palacio each recorded two of Hofstra's seven hits against the Blue Hens
Hofstra concludes its 2025 season with an overall record of 22-28.
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 70-32 all-time against Delaware. This was the final game between the Pride and the Blue Hens as CAA rivals, as Delaware will be joining Conference USA beginning on July 1, 2025.
-Palacio finishes the season with 18 doubles, the fourth-most in a season in program history.
-Hofstra finishes the season with 77 doubles, the eighth-most in a season in Hofstra softball history.
