Hofstra Wins CAA Championship Rematch Against Charleston

Buies Creek, NC – In a rematch against third-seeded Charleston, it was the sixth-seeded Hofstra softball team who came out on top with a 3-0 win over the Cougars on the second day of the 2025 CAA Championship from Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on a warm Thursday evening.
 
Hofstra moves on to the third day of the CAA Championship with a 22-27 record, and Charleston ends its season with a 31-24 mark.
 
Hofstra got on the board first in the second inning as Dahlia Palacio slammed her second home run of the season over the right field wall, putting the Pride ahead 1-0. Hofstra plated its second run of the game in the fourth inning when, with Alanna Morse on second after a lead-off single and an advancement to second after a sacrifice bunt by Anna Butler, Tyler Douglas singled up the middle to make it 2-0. The third and final run of the contest came in the sixth inning, after Chelsea Villar led off the inning with a double and Morse singled to put runners on the corners, and Anna Butler drove a flyball to deep left to score Villar and make it 3-0.
 
After a combined no-hitter through six innings, Charleston put runners on with an error and an outfield single with no outs. After a deep flyout to right advanced both runners into scoring position, Carley Ernst recorded a swinging strikeout and a groundout to Butler to secure the win.
 
Morse and Palacio each finished with two hits against the Cougars. Emma Falen got the win with five hitless innings with four strikeouts, while Ernst pitched the final two innings and recorded a strikeout for her sixth save.
 
The Pride will face top-seeded Delaware on Friday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m. from Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
 
NOTES:
-Hofstra improves its all-time record over Charleston to 20-12.
-With six hits to Charleston's one, Hofstra is now 17-4 when outhitting opponents this season.
-The Pride finished 3-6 with runners on and 2-5 with runners in scoring position.
