Buies Creek, NC – The Hofstra softball team jumped out to an early lead over Stony Brook and never let up, as the sixth-seeded Pride knocked out the fifth-seeded Seawolves 7-2 in the elimination side of the bracket of the 2025 CAA Championship from Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Hofstra improves its record to 21-27, and Stony Brook ends its season at 25-25.
After a lead-off single by
Chelsea Villar and a single by
Alanna Morse put runners on the corners with one out,
Dahlia Palacio gave the Pride the lead with a sacrifice fly RBI making it 1-0. After
Tyler Douglas advanced Morse to third on a single to the outfield,
Mackenzie Fitzgerald smacked a bases-clearing double all the way to the right field wall to make it a 3-0 score.
Hofstra added a pair of unearned runs off the bats of
Lily Yepez and
Anna Butler in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead before Stony Brook cut the lead to three with runs in the third and fourth innings. Hofstra responded a two-run fifth inning on a throwing error and a Fitzgerald SAC fly, making it 7-2. After
Carley Ernst pitched 3.2 innings of two-run softball,
Emma Falen pitched the remaining 3.1 innings and allowed only three Stony Brook baserunners to secure the win.
Palacio and Villar tallied two hits each against the Seawolves, while Fitzgerald racked up a personal-best three RBIs in the win.
With the win, Hofstra advances to face the lowest-seeded losing team of #1 Delaware-#4 Campbell and #2 Elon-#3 Charleston on Thursday, May 8. The Pride will take the diamond at 5 p.m.
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 24-14 all-time against Stony Brook. The Pride have eliminated Stony Brook from the last three CAA Championships.
