Garden City, NY – Behind a career-high 15 strikeouts,
Emma Falen pitched a complete game no-hitter as the Hofstra softball team opened its final CAA series of the season against Monmouth with a controlling 4-0 win from Janet L. Ficke Stadium on the campus of Adelphi University.
Hofstra improves to 18-26 overall and 13-12 in the CAA with its win over Monmouth, and the Hawks drop to 11-40 and 7-18 in league play.
Falen fanned 15 batters on 95 pitches for the first no-hitter of her career, and the first no-hitter throw by a Hofstra pitcher since Sarah Cornell pitched a no-no on April 23, 2017, against Elon. The 15 strikeouts are also the most thrown by a Hofstra pitcher since Olivia Galati fanned 15 against UNCW on May 4, 2012.
After
Chelsea Villar drew a lead-off single and advanced all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Anna Butler,
Alanna Morse skied a 0-2 pitch to deep right to bring in Villar for the opening run. The Pride plated a second run in the second inning with another sacrifice fly by
Nicole Cancel, and
Gemma D'Orazio took advantage of a throwing error on a stolen base attempt to round the bases and cross home safely for the 3-0 lead. After Butler got on base after a pair of Monmouth errors and advanced to third on a flyout from Morse,
Dahlia Palacio drove home the first baseman with a sacrifice fly to deep center, making it 4-0 before Falen completely shut down the Monmouth batters.
The series between the Pride and the Hawks continues on Friday, May 2, at 12 p.m. from Bill Edwards Stadium.
