Hempstead, NY – In the final game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association series between the Hofstra softball team and Charleston, Charleston claimed a 2-0 win over the Pride on a sunny Saturday afternoon from Bill Edwards Stadium.
Hofstra drops to 15-24 overall and 11-10 in the CAA following the loss to the Cougars, and Charleston is now 24-23 overall and 14-7 in league play.
Charleston took a 1-0 lead over the Pride after scoring a run in the third inning, and they tacked on a second run behind a on a throwout attempt at home.
Hofstra was limited to three baserunners all game, with
Mackenzie Fitzgerald tallying two hits on three at-bats, while
Chelsea Villar smoked a double in the sixth inning.
Emma Falen got the start in the circle and pitched 6.1 innings with three strikeouts, and
Carley Ernst pitched the final two outs of the seventh inning.
The Pride takes on St. John's on Wednesday, April 23, at 3 p.m. in Queens before beginning a three-game series at Stony Brook.
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 19-11 all-time against Charleston.
-Today was Fitzgerald's fifth multi-hit game this season.
