Bethlehem, PA -
Kyle Mosher and
Ross McFarland each advanced to Saturday's championship match at their respective weight classes, and four other Hofstra grapplers remain in contention to place after day one of the 2025 EIWA Wrestling Championships at Lehigh University. Mosher's final appearance earned him one of the conference's two allocations to the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds, while McFarland needs to win the 184 pound title to earn the EIWA's one automatic berth at that weight.
In addition to the two finalists,
Justin Hoyle (141),
Noah Tapia (149),
Jurius Clark (157), and
Nikolas Miller (197) will also compete in the consolation round Saturday. Hoyle and Tapia are in the consolation semifinals, while Clark and Miller will be competing in the seventh-place match. Hoyle is still in contention to earn one of the automatic berths to the NCAA Championships.
Mosher is making his first appearance in the EIWA finals and will be making his first NCAA appearance as well. The third seed, Mosher picked up a win by fall in his quarterfinal against Richie Grungo of Lehigh. Then his semifinal opponent, second seeded Gunner Filipowicz, had to medical forfeit their match to send Mosher through to the finals, where he will face Noah Mulvaney of Bucknell.
McFarland, seeded fourth, won his quarterfinal match by decision (7-3) over fifth-seeded Logan Deacetis of Bucknell and then upset the top seed, Will Ebert of Binghamton, by a 3-2 score. McFarland had a reversal to take a 2-1 lead and had enough riding time to earn the point after Ebert had a late escape. The Hofstra grad student will be making his first trip to the EIWA finals, where he will be facing third-seeded Caden Rogers of Lehigh.
Hofstra is currently in seventh place as a team with 62.5 points. Lehigh leads with 120 points.
Wrestling gets started at 10 a.m. Saturday with the consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches. The finals, third and fifth-place matches get underway at 12:15 p.m.
