Philadelphia, PA  - Kyle Mosher won his round of 32 match during Session One before falling to the top seed in the round of 16 during Session II, while Ross McFarland suffered a pair of losses on the first day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Center Thursday.

Mosher, the 16th seed at 165 pounds, defeated 17th seed Noah Mulvaney of Bucknell by fall in 3:29 in his first match of the day. The victory earned him a match against undefeated Mitchell Mesenbrink of Penn State in the next round. The Penn State sophomore picked up a tech fall victory, 22-6 (4:16). Mosher did have a reversal in the second period and nearly turned Mesenbrink onto his back. Mosher will wrestle 15th-seeded Nicco Ruiz of Arizona State in the consolation bracket round of 16.

McFarland, seeded 27th at 184 pounds, dropped a tough 5-3 decision to the ninth seeded Chris Foca of Cornell in the round of 32. The Hofstra graduate student scored a first period takedown but Foca had reversals in the first and second periods and picked up the riding time point. In his consolation bracket match, McFarland took on 22nd seeded Donnell Washington of Indiana. Trailing 9-3 early in the second period, McFarland was able to get a reversal and then started the third period with an escape to make it a 9-6 match. A stall point brought him within two with less than 30 seconds to go.
