Tapia Leads 12 Placewinners At Patriot Last Chance Open

Fairfax, VA - Hofstra had 12 placewinners, including first-place finisher Noah Tapia at the A division of 149 pounds and second-place finishers Gauge Shipp (133 B), Kyle Mosher (165 A), Matthew Waddell (174 B), and Ross McFarland (184 A), at the Patriot Last Chance Open hosted by George Mason Sunday.

Hofstra's other place-winners included Dylan Acevedo (3rd, 125 B), Chase Liardi (3rd, 133 A), Justin Hoyle (5th, 141 A), Jurius Clark (6th, 157 A), Eric Shindel (6th, 174 B), Nikolas Miller (6th, 197 A), and Danny Church (4th, 285 A).

Tapia had a pair of tech falls before scoring a 7-1 decision over Maryland's Michael Pizzuto in the finals. McFarland had the biggest win for the Pride, an upset victory over No. 20 TJ Stewart (Virginia Tech) in his first match of the day. He would drop a close 3-1 decision to No. 18 Ryder Rogotzke of Ohio State in the finals.

Hofstra will return to action at the EIWA Championships at Lehigh University on March 7.
