Boston, MA / Staten Island, NY - The Hofstra men's track team had a remarkable start to the 2025-26 indoor track and field season, breaking six program records in three meets on Saturday. The Pride competed in Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, the TRACK at New Balance's Early Bird Invitational in Boston, and St. John's Youree Spence-Garcia Inviational in Staten Island to open the season. Program records were broken in the men's mile, 200m dash, 300m dash, 1000m, 4x400m relay, and shot put events.
The day began at Boston University with freshman
Abel Kipkemboi breaking the men's mile program record with his 28th place finish and a time of 4:09.71, besting the record of 4:13.14 set by
Abraham Longosiwa last season.
William Thu finished next for Hofstra with a time of 4:11.98 to take 36th place, ranking him second all-time in the mile.
John Ortiz was 56th out of the 68-runner field with a time of 4:22.99.
Freshman
Noah Zeitzer led Hofstra in the 5000m race at the TRACK at New Balance with his fifth place finish and time of 14:49.71, while
Callum Beach came in sixth place (14:54.88),
Daniel Torrillo was seventh (14:55.00), and
Brian Beck finished 14th out of the 40-runner field with a time of 15:38.88.
Matthew Laudicina was the Pride's top finisher at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York, with his fourth place finish and program record breaking time of 2:35.55 in the 1000m, besting Trevor Zappulla's 2023 record by over one second.
Arnario Briggs-Garcia, Laudicina,
Steiger Devil, and
Sameer Grewal broke the 4x400m relay program record, earning a fourth place finish in 3:29.16. The 4x400m relay record was previously set at the 2025 Vassar Spring Invite with a time time of 3:42.52.
Steiger Devil broke the 200m dash program record with his 23.55 time and ninth place finish, besting the record set by
Alec Padron last season.
Zach Daudelin broke his own program record in the shot put event with his throw of 11.26m to finish in ninth place out of the 16-competitor field.
The final men's program record was broken in the 300m dash by
Arnario Briggs-Garcia with his 36.25 time and 26th place finish. The previous 300m dash record of 37.45 was set by
Alec Padron at this same meet in 2024.
Sameer Grewal finished the race in 27th place at 36.43, while
Cade Jaipaul was 37th at 39.74.
The Pride are back in action on Friday, December 12, for the Wagner Seahawk Shootout from the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
