Coral Gables, FL – The 2025-26 season of Hofstra women's basketball got underway Monday evening inside the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, and the Pride fell 83-48 to Miami.
 
Hofstra (0-1) was paced in scoring by 
Sandra Magolico with 12 points, while 
Sana'a Garrett produced nine points in her Hofstra debut, and 
Alarice Gooden led the team with six rebounds and a personal-best six assists.
 
The Pride jumped out to a fast start with threes from 
Emma Von Essen and 
Micaela Carter to lead 6-1, but the Hurricanes (1-0) kept it close with six points in three of the next four Miami possessions to trail by one with 5:55 left in the opening quarter. A driving layup by Magolico put the Hofstra lead at three, but Miami converted three straight threes to take a 16-10 lead before Magolico ended the run with a tough layup at 2:18 to make it a four-point difference. A Miami layup with 45 seconds left put the score at 18-12.
 
Hofstra cut the Hurricanes' lead to four on a Magolico fast break layup at 7:47, but Miami went on an 11-0 run to grow the advantage to 15 before Carter ended the Pride scoring drought with a jumper at 5:41. 
Alarice Gooden scored the final points of the quarter on a driving layup at 3:32, putting the score at 37-22 at halftime.
 
Miami outscored Hofstra 30-12 in the third quarter to hold a 67-34 lead over the Pride, and the hosts hung another 16 points on Hofstra in the fourth quarter to secure the win in the season opener for both teams.
 
Ra Shaya Kyle led all players with 13 points, while Ahnay Adams finished close behind with 12 points. Jessica Preston was the leading rebounder for Miami with eight.
 
Hofstra continues its season on Tuesday, November 11, at 6 p.m. against Yale.
 
NOTES:
-Miami finished with a .437 shooting percentage to Hofstra's .357, and Miami outrebounded the Pride 46-33.

Michaela Hodge led all players with two blocks.
-This was the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Miami in women's basketball.
