Hempstead, NY - Freshman
Freddie Kipkosgei was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association as the Northeast Region Men's Athlete of the Year, earning the Fred Tootell Award.
Kipkosgei is the second Hofstra athlete to receive Athlete of the Year recognition by the USTFCCCA after Alex Masai earned the honor in 2019 for cross country and in 2021 for track. The freshman from Eldoret, Kenya continues to add to his impressive accolades this season with this honor.
Kipkosgei earned this recognition through his incredible performances at the Northeast Region Championships and NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. At the Northeast Region Championships, he took home the individual title and earned All-America honors with his 38th place finish at the NCAA Championships in Columbia, Missouri. Additionally, Kipkosgei earned All-CAA honors by claiming the individual title at the Coastal Athletic Association Championships and placed first at the LIU Fall Festival to begin his first collegiate cross country season with the Pride.Â
