Second Round Bound! Hofstra Blanks Syracuse In NCAA First Round

Syracuse, NY - Laurie Goddard and Daniel Burko scored first half goals and the Pride defense limited the Orange to three shots on goal in a 2-0 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Championship Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium. With the win, Hofstra advances to face top-seeded Vermont in the second round on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Burlington, Vermont.

The Pride improved to 13-5-0 on the year with the victory, while Syracuse sees its season end at 9-8-3.

Goddard put Hofstra on the board with a penalty kick goal at 18:54. The Pride's senior midfielder drew the foul in the box when he was clipped by a diving Orange keeper Tomas Hut in pursuit of a loose ball. The 2025 CAA Player and Midfielder of the Year buried the kick for his 12th goal of the season and fifth off a penalty kick.

Seven minutes later, Burko made it a 2-0 lead as he knocked in a rebound off a Goddard shot for his 12th goal of the season. The graduate forward was playing in his first game at Syracuse after transferring from the school following the 2024 season.

The Hofstra backline and midfield did the rest. While Syracuse did have 18 shots, most were not scoring threats. The Orange did not have a shot on goal until the second half.

Hofstra keepers Gino Cervoni and Sean Bohan split time in goal, with Bohan collecting all three saves in the final 45 minutes.
